Talking about initial app development, and a few running updates.
Last week I started a mobile app development project. The first week was planned as an R&D sprint, with my One Big Thing goal being to be ready to start writing code in a week. Success! The biggest surprise was learning that I need a Mac to sign the binary files for iOS devices, which means I’ll have to acquire one of those at some point. Call that a known issue that we’ll address later.
This week I plan to actually write some code, although not anything related to Project RPG just yet. Instead I’m going to follow John Sonmez of Simple Programmer‘s advice and start by implementing something I’ve done before, but this time on a new platform. That way I can get my feet wet with Xamarin development before I start trying to craft a whole new app.
The other thing this week was finishing out the 10km virtual race I needed to complete the USAF Marathon Fly! Fight! Win! challenge. As of this writing, it looks like I’m in 188th place in the unofficial results. My half-marathon time really killed me. I’ll have to do better next year.
