News broke today of the USAF (Big Daddy Air Force for those of us in CAP) successfully deploying a code change powered by Kubernetes to an in-flight U-2. Which, from a software development and deployment standpoint, is incredibly cool. AGILE development and rapid/continuous deployment is the way of the future, especially for companies wanting to move fast.
Considering the software issues continuing to plague the F-35, one wonders whether that program could benefit from the ability to do in-air updates, rather than the massive block integrations that Lockheed-Martin seems to have been doing.
Then again, “Your aircraft is downloading critical updates, and will restart in 10 minutes” is not a message that a pilot wants to see. So maybe we leave that bit to Microsoft and our poor Windows 10 machines.
