It’s interesting how some of the plot points get shifted around slightly, depending on which path we’re on. Last week, the winning path saw the sad demise of Specialist McGuffin. This week, the losing path, stuck in the Ghorah Khar system, gets the same cinematic after their introduction to the Broadsword. Meanwhile, in the Niven system, we’re escorting a couple of transports as we make our way back from the ground-based Niven station.
In theory, Ghorah Khar Alt C is probably a better introduction to the Broadsword than Niven A. Where that mission has no capital ships, this one at least presents the player with a small capital ship to attack with torpedoes. Granted, the Kamekh-class corvettes can actually be destroyed with guns, but a new player likely wouldn’t make that assumption.
The overall mission isn’t too challenging. Trying to turn with the much more maneuverable Drakhri fighters in the slow and wallowing Broadsword isn’t much fun, but that does make it a good job for turrets. If nothing else, pick a direction, jump into the rear turret and take out a fighter. Then jump back into the cockpit and go defensive while your shields rebuild.
The Niven mission is slightly more challenging. Keeping the enemy fighters off the two transports can be a bit of a challenge. These aren’t well armored battlecruisers, so it’s important to focus on whatever is actually attacking them.
At the end of these missions, though, neither are critical to system victory.
