Tornadoes Suck – Vlog 2019-30

  • by

On the night of September 10th, Sioux Falls got hammered by three EF-2 class tornadoes. While things are mostly back to normal now, it was definitely a rough night.

BBQ grill took a direct hit.
So did a 24′ section of the privacy fence that we share with our neighbor. When I got a look at the posts later, they were pretty rotted out. What was left in the ground came out rather crumbly.

Fortunately, our whole community has been really coming together to help out people in need. Lots of folks with chainsaws out helping remove fallen trees from around neighborhoods, volunteering to help with cleanup, and just generally doing what needed to be done. A week later most things look back to normal, although for some of the homes and businesses that took direct hits, recovery is obviously going to be a much longer process.

I ended up asking for a bit of help from our CAP squadron. Tearing apart the old fence sections, putting in new posts, and getting what we could reuse back up was definitely a bigger job than Adventure Girl, (Not-So) Mini-Me and I could easily accomplish on our own.
The grill looked pretty bad, but only needed about five minutes with a rubber mallet to get back into shape.

And just like that, everything’s pretty much back to normal for us. Oh, I had to go use a leaf blower on the roof to get all the sticks and debris off, but that’s pretty normal in this neighborhood.

Not me, but you get the picture. Photo from https://biggerthanthethreeofus.com/
