For anyone curious about Adventure Girl’s story referenced in yesterday’s blog, I figured I’d reprint it here. I’d say the kid might have some potential.

The Sisters

Julia and Margaret Lancken were sitting down sewing outside on a still, quiet, peaceful morning. The silence was broken as Julia began to say, “Margaret, are you almost finished with your quilt already?”

Margaret spoke up “Why yes, of course.” She laughed a little, “and I see that you are not nearly finished with yours, Julia.”

“Why Margaret, don’t you know that it is better to be patient, than to rush and make small mistakes?” Margaret sighed and continued her sewing.

“Julia”, Margaret said, “could you pass me that orange flower over there?”

Julia handed Margaret the flower. “There you go, but what do you need that flower for?”

“Well, I need it because when I’m finished with the blanket for little Agnes, I want to embroider some flowers on the blanket. Agnes just adores flowers, so I thought I would use this flower to look at, just to give me a visualization of what I will be making.”

Julia spoke up, “Why that is a great idea!”

“Yes, well, that’s why I was sewing so fast, because the main part of the blanket is that it is going to be covered by all sorts of different colored flowers. Are you going to be doing anything fancy for Wilfred, Julia?”

“Well, Margaret, I haven’t really given it too much thought. The only thing that I really wanted to do, was to make it with all of Wilfred’s favorite colors, and then embroider his name in there as well.”

“I see, well, that seems like an excellent idea. What colors are you going to use?”

“I was thinking of using red, blue, and green, because those are Wilfred’s favorite colors, and then I will put them in a checkered pattern.”

“That is a splendid idea, Julia, and I’m sure that Wilfred will be very happy with his quilt.”

“Thank you Margaret. I will work hard on this for Wilfred and to hopefully outdo you.”

Margaret looked over at Julia. “Whatever you say, Dear.” After about two hours, both Margaret and Julia were done with their quilts and embroidery. “Julia, what do you think of this?”

“Margaret, that looks absolutely beautiful! Did you use all the flowers we have on the table?”

“Yes, I did, and your quilt looks splendid as well. You embroidered Wilfred’s name perfectly.” The sisters laughed, folded the quilts, and gently placed them on the window, then they went inside and had some tea.
