No rest for the weary in Wing Commander! The Secret Missions expansion picked up right where Wing Commander left off and plunges the Tiger’s Claw and her pilots into a whole new battle against the Kilrathi!
This is it. The final mission of the losing path. The Terran Confederation has been defeated all across the Vega Quadrant, and is retreating to the Denab Quadrant. The Tiger’s Claw is the last capital ship in the Hell’s Kitchen system. Unfortunately, the cats aren’t just going to let a Confederate fleet carrier leave.
Things are just getting worse and worse in Hell’s Kitchen. Unable to stem the tide of reinforcements flowing in from other systems, the Confederation is pulling out and abandoning the Vega system completely
Things are going from bad to worse, but it’s not really our fault. At least not this time. The net is closing around the last few systems in the Vega Sector though, and Kilrathi reinforcements are jumping into Hell’s Kitchen as the surrounding systems fall. It’s our job to at least slow them down a bit.
The first mission opens with a desperate escort mission. A transport ship full of refugees is inbound with enemy fighters hot on her tail. You and Hunter are going to have to launch ASAP!
While this looks like a normal intercept mission, there’s a surprise waiting for any pilot foolish enough to waste too many missiles on the first flight of Krants.
Bar chatter is really subdued pre-mission. I think it’s really supposed to drive home to the player that this is just about it, and you’d better get your act together if you want to win the game.
I really wish I still had Knight around for this mission. He may not be anywhere near as efficiently aggressive as Bossman, Angel, or Iceman, but he’s at least a reliable distraction for the enemy. Which would have been helpful in this mission.
The story leading up to the battle is about what I expected after the big Chapter 14 reveal. Some members of Squad E are very unhappy about Angie being locked in the reactor. We get some of her backstory, and, well…
Normally this would be an automatic reload for me, but this mission set is headed down the worst possible future anyway, so screw it. We’re all going to die in the end anyway.
