SITREP – One Week

  • by

One week into the new gig. Maybe someday I’ll get used to spending half my day in online meetings. I’m sure that I will. The new office area is still in a state of flux, the only thing I added last week was hanging up my significant race medals from the past few years.

The new job is interesting. It seems like they’re looking for about 45-50 hours a week (the classic Microsoft dev work hours, I suppose). Now that we’re getting the budget aligned properly, I’ll probably be spooling up weekend DoorDash operations for the holidays too. Most people have put their nice cars up for the winter already, but maybe I’ll have some winter beater pictures to show off at some point.

It’s nice to see a paycheck hitting the bank account again. Especially because South Dakota’s unemployment office STILL hasn’t figured out whether or not to approve my claim! Thank God for an emergency fund, the support of both our blood family and our church family, because otherwise we would have been in real trouble.

We took the weekend to celebrate just a bit. My local H.O.G. Chapter held our annual renewal party on Saturday, which made for a good opportunity to introduce MLGB to a few of my riding buddies. Then we went for a “romantic” early supper at Applebee’s, because the 2 for $20 meal special was on, and we’re cheap. Sunday was a bit more of a personal celebration, with me finding a local dive sports bar to have a couple of cold brews, some delicious boneless wings (adult chickie-nugs, I know…) and watching the Broncos lose. Urgh. It’s definitely not the year for Denver.

Today it’s back to the grind! Start the day with a good run, and you can at least ensure that nothing worse is likely to happen to you!
