Azur Lane’s first new Halloween event this year is Tempesta’s Secret Shipyard. Bringing a new costume for last year’s spooky shipgirl, Royal Fortune. Royal Fortune is unique in Azur Lane (at least for now) as being the only sailing ship in the game, and the only member of the pirate aligned Tempesta faction.
Back to reality for a moment, what was the Royal Fortune, exactly? According to history, the pirate Bartholmew Roberts (also known as “The Great Pyrate” and eventually “Black Bart”) had a thing for renaming his flagship as the Royal Fortune. He recristened at least three captured vessels with that name, each successively larger than the last.
First came a 26-gun naval frigate. Second was a captured French warship. Third and final was the Onslow, formerly a Portuguese Man-O-War with multiple gun decks and numerous cannon. The final Royal Fortune’s career ended in the Battle of Cape Lopez, as did Black Bart’s life.
In Azur Lane, Royal Fortune arrived on the scene last year during the Halloween Hijinks event. She showed up, commandeered the Commander’s attention like a proper pirate, crashed the Halloween costume party, and disappeared off into the night again. This year, Tempesta’s Secret Shipyard is all about building a proper sailing ship, with a nice costume reward at the end.
No, I don’t know why she has tentacles. Frankly, I don’t want to know. I would hazard a guess, based on her … armaments, that she’s based on the final Man-O-War version of Royal Fortune, but that’s just speculation on my part.
No doubt there will be a second addition to the Tempesta fleet before the end of the month, but we’ll have to meet her in another blog.
