Rule 5 Warships – Joffre

  • by

Since Azur Lane is currently running a major event feature French (Iris Libre and Vichya Dominion) shipgirls, this week’s irregular Rule 5 post features one of the girls involved in the current story.

Meet MNF Joffre, an aircraft carrier of the Vichya Dominion.

Now IRL, Joffre’s keel was 1938, but the work was not finished before the French surrender on June 22, 1940. The Germans weren’t interested in another unfinished aircraft carrier, especially with Graf Zepplin still unfinished, and Joffre was eventually scrapped.

Catbird AI generated image. Took a bit to get the character look right, but this feels pretty close, since Joffre doesn’t have an official swimsuit look (yet).

But this is Azur Lane, where mining the depths of possibility (or just plain making stuff up) is the order of the day. And in Azur Lane, Joffre exists as a potent aircraft carrier able to lay down plenty of supporting firepower for her friends.

Unofficial race queen look. Definitely got the vibe right. Artist: Kcar66T – Danbooru – NSFW

[WARNING, Event Spoilers Ahead!]

After helping rescue Marseillaise from her self-imposed exile guarding a holy relic of the Iris Orthodoxy throughout the course of the (increasingly a-historic) war, Joffre joins shipgirls from around the world in the capstone event of Azur Lane’s 5th Anniversary – one which ties up a bunch of plot threads that have been building for months in previous events, serves as an in-game anniversary celebration, and kicks off a major new look for the next year’s storyline.

If that sounds like a lot of heavy lifting for a mobile gacha game about pretty girls based on warships, then yes, you’re correct. This game has built out an impressive storyline over the past few years, while still finding plenty of ways to introduce new shipgirls and separate gamers from their dollars.

Here’s to the next year of ridiculous adventures!
