Pharewell Phantom Flights

  • by

On November 20th, 2020, the 301sq of the JASDF said goodbye to their F-4EJ Phantoms for the last time.

According to The Aviationist, 301sq will ultimately be moving airbases to become the 2nd F-35A squadron in Japan. A few F-4s are still flying in Japanese colors as part of the non-combat Air Development and Test Wing at Gifu, but after forty-eight years of service, the career of the mighty Rhino is effectively over in Japanese service.

A different view, from a different channel, on the same events.

Although, for the person with massive buckets of money to burn, there is a “mostly complete” F4H available for civilian purchase that can “be restored to flyable condition.” It’s been listed on Platinum Fighters for a while now. Maybe I should pick up a Powerball ticket this week, just in case…
