Courtesy of The Other McCain, we find the sad tale of one Melissa Rein Lively, who went from successful businesswoman to cuffed and stuffed in the back of a police car after a very public July breakdown went viral.
Does it just seem like almost everyone’s still a bit more on edge than usual? I mean before the election, sure, but even now, in what is usually the generally happiest time of the year, it seems like a lot of folks are wound up a little extra tight. The Christmas season has a bit of an edge to it, a weird combination of desperation and forced cheerfulness, like everyone’s waiting for the next shoe to drop, whatever that might be.
Of course no one actually knows what “the next thing” might be, or when it might happen, which probably adds to the anxiety for a lot of people. I imagine that for folks already prone to psychological disorders, that extra background stress might well be the final straw.
Can’t say that I have any particularly good answers for anyone, other than just to be a little extra prepared, sure, but even more importantly, try to remember that folks are wound up and try to be a little extra kind. It’s the Christmas season. We ought to be trying to do that anyway. Turn off the news and a Christmas movie that makes you happy. Pay for the order of the car behind you in the drive through. I don’t know, just be kind to each other (as Jerry Springer used to say.)
