Old Home Week | Let’s Play Wing Commander II – Ghorah Khar Missions A, B, and C

  • by

Life stuff wiped out most of my blogging for a week (more on that next week, maybe) but we’re back! Just in time for a Fighter Friday featuring the first three Ghorah Khar system missions.

Where to start with these? We’ve already met Colonel Ralga nar’Hallas before, but now it’s time to fly with him. Is it because almost no one else on the Concordia wants to fly with a Kilrathi wingman? Is it that Admiral Tolwyn doesn’t entirely trust him either and wants to keep out of the direct firing line? Who knows?

Oh, and it’s time to meet the F-44H version of the Rapier II. A heavily redesigned airframe from the F-44As that we flew in Wing Commander, this version trades the short-ranged Neutron guns for Particle Cannons, and swaps the Alpha’s single ImRec for a pair of heaters. Whether that’s a good trade or not is open for debate.

Next mission starts old home week on the Concordia. We’re sent out to escort a Free Trader cargo ship back to the boat. But this isn’t just some random cargo vessel. This is the Bonnie Heather, the personal ship of one recently retired Colonel James “Paladin” Taggart. What’s he doing in a war zone?

Finally, we have a strike/escort mission of sorts. We’ll hear more about Paladin’s adventures with Hobbes eventually.

There’s not much to say about the actual missions. These aren’t particularly difficult. The new and improved Rapier II is interesting, but don’t get too attached. Wing Commander II likes to change up what you’re flying a lot more often than Wing Commander.
