Mask on. Mask off. MLGB and I have been watching a few shows now that the 2020 TV season has finally started. While most shows are just ignoring the whole Chinese Lung Pox thing, the “Ripped from the Headlines” style dramas have instead been trying to stay current, which means the actors and actresses are masked to varying degrees during almost every shot.
It’s pretty well turned every serious drama into a comedy. Take, for example, one of MLGB’s favorite shows: NCIS: New Orleans. Scott Bakula’s character walks into a room and puts his mask on. The coroner lady doesn’t bother, she’s behind a plexiglass shield. Then she gets up and walks around the shield, and puts her mask on. The two of them walk through a partition, and take their masks off so that the coroner can tell him about her dramatic finding in the latest murder case.
While the only masks I want to see would be for M.A.S.K. to show up on Netflix, here’s a drinking game for the rest of us.
I’d suggest water, or light beer (same difference), because if you do this with shots, you’ll likely be waking up the next morning wondering why you decided to fall asleep under your coffee table.
The 2020 TV Show Mask Drinking Game!
Take a drink whenever a character puts on a mask.
Take a drink whenever a character takes off a mask.
Take a drink when a character is wearing a mask wrong – either as a chinstrap, or with their nose hanging out.
Take a drink when two or more characters are masked up in a car, then take their masks off when they get out of the car.
Take two drinks whenever characters put on masks to talk to someone, then take them off in the next shot.
Take two drinks when characters are within six feet of each other and not masked at all.
Take two drinks when background characters are masked in one shot, and unmasked in the next (or vice versa).
Finish the bottle whenever someone dramatically rips their mask off to make a point.
Finish someone else’s drink if someone has their mask dramatically ripped off by another character!
