Notes From the Spam Filter

  • by

Dead brain blogging today, as Adventure Girl turns fourteen and, hopefully, passes her written test for her Learner’s Permit on the first try today. However, it seems that this little blog has managed to gain enough of a presence to attract the attention of some spam bots now. I feel almost flattered.

On the one hand, it’s nice to see a bunch of comments waiting for moderation. On the other hand, then I go in and realize that it’s weird stuff like this:

“This paragraph will help the internet people for creating new weblog or even a blog from start to end. Alie Avram Farlee”

Yes, my whole goal with my Wing Commander II Let’s Play series was to help the Internet People create a new weblog, or even a blog. Huh? Some of this stuff sounds enough like English that I’d be tempted to let it through if there weren’t ten comments by ten different burner email addresses all with a link to the same domain posted to the same page.

Thank you for your article. Much thanks again. Really Cool. Eadith Ab Pollyanna

That’s pretty in-offensive, right? It’s even a compliment. Nothing to do with the topic though, and a complete non-sequitur. Ergo, SPAM.

My favorite of the bunch has to be whatever this is, however:

What a data of un-ambiguity and preserveness of precious know-how on the topic of unpredicted feelings. Cyb Hank Armalla

Un-ambiguity and “preserveness”. That’s definitely what I was going for. I can’t figure out if the idea was to say “preservation” of know-how, or “preserved” know-how. Maybe perverse know-how? Hmm, maybe on one of my other posts, but not the Let’s Plays.

I wonder if the Spambots will get ahold of this post?
