Goals for 2020 and Beyond

  • by

After spending the last couple of weeks looking backward at both 2019 and the entire decade of the ‘10s, it’s time to look forward. I don’t do resolutions, but I do like to set goals. Here’s four big things I’d like to accomplish in 2020.

  1. Get my marathon time under five hours! I’m only going to get one shot at this in 2020, which means I’d better make sure that my training is on point throughout the summer. That should help with a secondary goal of getting my weight below 200lbs and keeping it there.
  2. Don’t miss a blog week. I definitely had some issues with this in 2019, but the 2020 goal is to have consistent Monday – Saturday (I’ll still be taking Sundays off) content. I can’t promise that it’ll always be great, and I’m probably going to skew hard towards more Wing Commander content for a while, but just successfully getting something out there every day will be good. I feel like I’m finally hitting a good rhythm for when things go up, at least.
  3. Better budgeting. MLGB and I are still getting the budget dialed in after getting on the Dave Ramsey plan in November. But the 2020 goal is to cut our overall debt by at least 50%.
  4. Finish the KonMari cleanup. So far I’ve managed to finish two of the five steps in the KonMari plan, but it only gets more difficult from here.

Since we’re also entering a new decade, I’ll throw out a couple of longer term goals too.

  1. Debt free within two years. The numbers in my spreadsheet say we can do it, we just have to stay gazelle intense.
  2. Join the 50-State marathon club. Not that I have to have all fifty states done, but you have to have finished a marathon in at least ten different states before you can even join.
  3. Pilot’s license. I spent a good chunk of the ‘10s wishing that I had been able to finish getting my pilot’s license in ‘08 (which was a financial disaster, but that’s another story). This time I want to do it the right way, and I think we can get this done within the next ten years.

You know what’s really crazy? In this decade, my household grew by two as T-Man and The Queen entered our lives. By the end of the next decade, The Queen may be the only one still living at home.

I’m not ready.
