Free Agent – Again

  • by

One week ago, I rather abruptly found myself jobless for the first time in five and a half years. (Yes, this was the “personal life issue” that I referenced yesterday.) I definitely didn’t see this one coming. There are definitely some lessons to be learned from the experience, but I think I’ll save unpacking those in a public setting for when the wounds are no longer fresh, and I don’t run the risk of saying something in a public setting that I might regret later. All I’ll say for the moment is that is suspect that the impact on business from the Chinese Flu may have been a factor.

Regardless, here I am at loose ends once again. However, I’ve had a fair amount of time over the last few years to contemplate what I’d do when I inevitably found myself in-between jobs, because, let’s be honest, there was no way I was going to go thirty-five more years in my career without experiencing another job interruption or two.

The good news is that I don’t expect to be out of work for too long. The local market for programmers still seems to generally be higher in demand than supply. In the meantime, it’s time to enact Plan B.

  • Work on the content buffer. No good excuses right now.
  • More Twitch broadcast frequency. Oh look, Subtember starts today!
  • Just more writing in general
  • Time to work on some Topcoder projects.
  • Maybe get some things done around the house?
  • Finally, my weekend side hustle rather abruptly becomes my main weeknight hustle for now.

And hey, if anyone wants a t-shirt, or some workout supplements, maybe hit the links on the sidebar and use my code?

Yup, this has been my weekend side-hustle – DoorDash delivery driver.

The nice thing about DoorDash is that people are generally happy to see you when you show up with their food. At least, the ones who don’t want the food dropped off at the door. Plus, sometimes I can spot some pretty nice cars on the road, what with it being summer and all. I’ll have to post a few of those photos in a future blog.
