Fear The Reavers – Let’s Play Wing Commander: The Secret Missions, Border Zone 2

Now things are starting to get interesting. The Tiger’s Claw is officially heading deep into Kilrathi space. Bur first, there are some transports to escort as they transit through the Border Zone. It seems that High Command has a plan for a distraction of some sort involving a Terran Marine special forces unit called the Reavers.

In the bar, I find it kind of unbelievable that the rumor mill hasn’t filled in Shotglass on what happened on Goddard colony yet. The actual mission is fairly normal, and continues the trend of lots of small groups of fairly tough enemy fighters. Also minefields. Lots of friggin’ minefields. At least the Raptor can take a few hits, and Angel is always a reliable wingman.

The biggest risk in this mission comes at Nav 1, where we pick up the two Drayman-class transports that we’re supposed to be escorting. Three Jalthi by themselves wouldn’t be that much of a problem, but transports are pretty fragile, and can’t take much damage. The Jalthi need to be killed as quickly as possible. Especially because the path to Nav 2 crosses the edge of a minefield.

Transiting a minefield at 100 clicks isn’t fun. It’s even worse when you watch a mine veering off towards one of the transports you’re escorting, and all you can do is hope the big, lumbering scow survives the hit.

Post-mission takes us back to Colonel Halycon’s office for another squadron transfer. This time we’re going over to Scimitars. Oh, joy!
