Back on the Boat – Let’s Play Wing Commander II, Gwynedd C & Gwynedd D

  • by

Doubling up on the last two Gwynedd missions this week. This will probably be the typical cadence for a while with this Wing Commander II series. I’ll double up videos on single systems, and have both the mainline and alternate system versions of the same mission on weeks when the game branches. On with the show!

Gwynedd C introduces the concept of the heavy bomber. We’re only flying in an escort role this time, but it’s a nice way to introduce the new game mechanic without potentially overloading new players. We’ll see actual torpedo runs eventually.

This mission isn’t particularly complicated, but it’s the critical mission in the bunch. Lose here, and you’ll be going onto the Ghorah Khar alternate system after the next mission. Just keep the Broadswords safe. There aren’t too many enemy fighters out there, and the Ferret was made for quick strike missions like these.

Then it’s on with the story, and back to Caernarvon Station. Not for long though! There’s a saboteur onboard the Concordia! With the catapults down, we’re the only available fighters! (No one was flying BARCAP? Really?) Get back to the Concordia, and prepare to keep the enemy fighters off her while she gets into a gun duel with the pursuing Fralthra.

Poor Shadow. She only had a month left before retirement.

Win in Gwynedd C, and go on to the Niven system. Lose, and go to Ghorah Khar Alternate.
