A Day at the Zoo

  • by

This week we celebrate the Birth Week of The Queen, who will be turning six midway through. Thanks to reasons of scheduling, we forsook the usual “Take the Birthday Kid out on His/Her Actual Birthday” thing and did it on Labor Day instead. Don’t worry, The Queen will also be celebrated on her birthday, and a couple of days after her birthday too, when no one has football practices or AWANA to deal with.

Turns out that The Queen is actually from Ork and still fits into her space pod. Who knew?

The last time I went to our local zoo was a couple of years ago on T-Man’s birthday. It was a shockingly nice March day, but still March in South Dakota, meaning that most of the warm climate animals were still tucked away in their Winter homes, and the fun crowd attractions like the zoo train and carousel weren’t running.

Kangaroos don’t care where they are, they just want to lay in the sun.

This time, everything was open. Hooray! The Queen was quite pleased.

She loves carousels. And who am I to say no to the almost birthday girl?
I think she talked me into the biggest stuffed animal they had in the gift shop. Then we had to take a picture with the zoo’s actual tiger in the background. I tried to convince her to name the tiger “Hobbes” but she had other ideas. I think it’s now “Princess Sparkles” or something like that.

No vlog yesterday, because I ended up rather busy over Labor Day weekend, and mostly forgot (translation: I blew it off on Saturday and then spent all of my free time on Sunday playing Valkyria Chronicles 4). On the plus side, I should have plenty of VC4 content?
