2020 Goal Review and 2021 Goals

  • by

2020 didn’t go as planned. Obviously. Not for me, not for anyone, really. However, while I still don’t believe in resolutions, I did post four goals at the beginning of 2020, so let’s take a look back, and see about some 2021 objectives.

  1. Run a marathon in less than five hours. Oof, that’s not a good start to these goals. Then again, I didn’t actually run any marathons in 2020, because they all got cancelled. Thanks Corona-chan. Given my training runs, I’m not sure if I could have pulled this off anyway, but I sure would have tried. This remains a goal for 2021 (and I’ve already signed up for two marathons this year!). On the plus side, I did finally get my weight below 200lbs, and have kept it down even through the Christmas season.
  2. Don’t miss a blog week. Yeah, that didn’t happen either. I’m not even going to make this a 2021 goal. I may miss a week here and there, if I have to pull a stand-down for a week to rebuild the buffer or something.
  3. Better budgetingcut overall debt by 50%. You know what? Despite being unemployed for ten weeks, and the South Dakota unemployment system absolutely sucking balls and never sending us a dime, we actually did manage this one! Sure, a lot of that had to do with using big chunks of our stimulus checks to pay down debt, but progress is progress.
  4. Finish the KonMari cleanup. Nope. Still stuck on Step 3.

So 1/4 on those goals. Maybe 1/3 if we throw out the marathon goal as being unachievable due to circumstances beyond my control. Ouch. Let’s check in on the longer term goals…

  1. Debt free within two years. This might actually happen. It’s going to be tough, but there’s a decent chance we’ll be out of debt by the end of 2021!
  2. Join the 50-State marathon club. No 2020 progress, as noted above. That said, one of my 2021 marathons is supposed to be in Tuna’s neck of the woods. Assuming that the wise leadership of The People’s Republic of California graciously allows their subjects to gather outside again by summer, anyway.
  3. Pilot’s license. No real progress there, although the paperwork to renew my student pilot ticket is sitting on my desk now, just waiting a chance to go to my local flight school to be blessed by an authorized instructor. I did get up in the air a few times though, thanks to the Civil Air Patrol

Not too bad on the long term goals then. Now for some 2021 goals and changes.

  1. Two YouTube videos a week. Actually, for the first quarter of the year, I’ll be going with two a week for my Wing Commander II playthroughs. If I keep outstripping my release schedule, that might even go up to three a week, but that starts getting into some heavy edit time every week.
  2. Run a marathon in less than five hours. I’m still trying.
  3. Debt free this year.
  4. Finish the KonMari cleanup.
